Recalls, Stated Plainly
Nobody in this industry puts a page like this on their website. We are going to, because you are about to put a child on a machine you bought from strangers on the internet, and you deserve to hear the uncomfortable part from us rather than find it on a forum in six months.
The February 2022 Coolster recall
On 2 February 2022, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of approximately 141,000 Coolster youth ATVs, sold by Maxtrade LLC, the company that owns the Coolster brand.
Two defects were cited. Some units exceeded the maximum speed permitted for youth ATVs under the mandatory federal safety standard. On some units the parking brake would not hold the vehicle. The remedy was a free repair. CPSC reported no injuries.
There had also been a CPSC warning the previous year, in April 2021, covering the ATV-3050-C and ATV-3050-B for the same speed issue.

What we did about it
We built our lineup around it. Not one machine we sell comes from a model family on that list. That was a deliberate choice made before a single product page went live, and it cost us some of the most popular sellers in the category.
The ATV-3050C in particular is probably the single highest volume youth quad in this whole market. Several of our competitors sell it right now. It is a fine machine today, the recall was remedied years ago, and current production is compliant. We still passed, because there is a version of this machine's history we would have to explain on every phone call, and we would rather just sell you the 3050B2 instead.
Same with the ATV-3125XR8-U2 and the ATV-3125CX-2. Popular, widely sold, remediated. Not here.
Being fair about it
A recall is not proof a company is bad. It is often proof the system worked. CPSC found a problem, the manufacturer fixed it for free, and nobody got hurt. Plenty of excellent companies in every industry have been through one.
Maxtrade holds a current CPSC ATV Action Plan, which is mandatory to sell youth ATVs in the United States, and they hold current CARB emissions certifications on four engine families. Those are both real, checkable facts and they both point the right direction.
We are also not going to pretend our lineup is recall proof. Any manufacturer can have one tomorrow, including this one, including on the exact models we sell. What we can promise is what we do when it happens.
What we will do if a machine we sold you is ever recalled
- We email you the same day we find out. Not a banner on the website you might see. An email, to you, with the model, the defect and the remedy.
- We pull it off the site immediately, before we have worked out what it costs us.
- We handle the claim. You will not be sent to a phone tree in another state. Send us the VIN and we chase it.
- We tell you plainly whether we think it is safe to keep riding in the meantime, and if the honest answer is park it, we will say park it.
That is why we ask you to register your machine the day it arrives. It takes ten minutes and it is the only way step one actually works.
Check any machine yourself, from any seller
CPSC publishes every recall in a free public database at cpsc.gov, searchable by brand and model. Before you buy a powersports machine from anybody, search the brand there. It takes about a minute.
Do it for us too. We would rather you trusted us because you checked than because we said so.
The other thing worth saying
The 2022 recall was about youth ATVs going faster than the federal standard allows. Which is a good moment to repeat the thing we say on every product page and mean every time: set the throttle limiter low and leave it there until it is boring. A governor is the difference between a machine that teaches a kid judgment and one that hands them speed they have not earned yet.
